Emergency Medical
Unexpected medical treatment is possibly the single most expensive cost you could get hit with when you travel. Fortunately, Horizon Insurance offers products from multiple different Travel Insurance Companies to service all of your out-of-province Emergency Medical Needs. Coverage includes:
- Hospital in-patient / out-patient charges
- Ambulance and surgical charges
- Emergency dental care
- Prescription drugs, physiotherapy, medical evacuation and death benefits
Plus a whole lot more. All residents of Manitoba are eligible, as long as you purchase your policy while still physically in the province. To find out all your options and full coverage details, simply contact us.

So if you just can’t wait to get on the road again, your best bet is to contact us first. We’ll take the time to understand your needs my friend. ‘Cuz you can’t wait to get on the road again.
Tour Package Plans
That’s why our package plans are designed specifically for travelers who have booked package tours and want protection against the high cost of emergency bills incurred beyond these friendly Manitoba borders.
Coverage includes:
- 24 hr. worldwide Emergency Medical Coverage
- Coverage for pre-paid airfare expenses in the event of an unexpected cancellation
- Baggage protection
Of course, tour packages aren’t always about parading you through the Acropolis. Even packages to more typical fun-n-sun holiday destinations can go awry. Just ask us about the full benefits of this well-advised insurance option.
Cancellation/Interruption Plans
Hopefully the above scenario will never happen to you, but if it does, you’re kind of hooped, aren’t you? Not if you have Trip Cancellation/Interruption insurance! That way you’re protected against financial loss from the unexpected cancellation or rescheduling of your travel arrangements. If you’re forced to cancel your trip arrangements prior to departure, or if you need to return prior to or later than originally scheduled, you’re covered. There are also a number of other included benefits that might prove useful for anyone who can’t predict the future with 100% certainty. You’ll get coverage for:
- Non-refundable portion of prepaid airfare
- Extra cost of one-way economy airfare home (if purchased)
- Extra cost of economy air transportation to your destination (in the event of missed connection due to a schedule change by a tour operator)
- Plus a whole lot more, but you get the idea — it’s pretty extensive.
It is important to select the benefits that will cover the total cost of your trip and that every member of your family traveling together is covered. For even more handy hints like these, feel free to contact us.
Air Accident
Essentially, Air Accident Insurance covers subscribers who are passengers on:
- any trip departing from any point (or points) within Manitoba, and destined for a location outside of Manitoba
- any trip destined to arrive at any point (or points) in Manitoba, from a location outside of Manitoba
- any trip where both the departure point and the destination are from a location outside of Manitoba.
Contact us to discuss the complete range of benefits and whether or not this policy is right for you.
Student Travel
But just before you head off on your travels, it would be wise to note that just like with your courses, certain things won’t be covered by your Manitoba medical coverage. For example, Health expenses incurred outside of Manitoba are not fully covered by Manitoba Health. The good news is, a comprehensive Student Travel Health Plan will cover any emergency medical bills incurred beyond Manitoba borders.
If you’re a Manitoba resident covered by Manitoba Health for the entire school term, age 30 or under on date of departure, are going to be in full-time attendance at a school, university or college outside of Manitoba, and apply for coverage prior to leaving, then you’re eligible for the student health plan.

Youth Adventure Package
Here’s our logic on this one: Provincial medical plans cover only a fraction of medical expenses, and most foreign hospitals and doctors routinely charge thousands of dollars a day. Even a minor injury could burden you with enough debt to make that giant backpack seem light by comparison.
With a Youth Adventure package plan, travelers under the age of 30 receive coverage for hospital and medical expenses. Not only that but the policy also includes benefits covering trip interruption as well as lost or stolen baggage — and that’s a big one. No, it doesn’t happen to everyone, but no matter where you go or how nice the hostels you stay at, your gear is always at risk of being swiped pretty much as soon as you leave it unattended. If you don’t believe it, just ask anyone’s who ever backpacked.
So before you head off on your great odyssey, make sure you have your Youth Adventure Package Plan policy documents.
To find out more about the Youth Adventure Package Plan, contact us. After the hostel bus driver, they might just be the most important person you’ll talk to.
Visitors to Canada
A Visitors to Canada policy covers injury or sickness requiring an emergency hospital stay or emergency medical treatment. It protects visitors to Canada for short periods as well as extended stays. Immigrants are eligible for this policy, as are Canadians returning to Canada after living abroad who are awaiting provincial health plan coverage.
You’ll be covered for emergency air transportation, emergency dental expenses, and prescription drugs. In fact, coverage even includes accommodations for you or your traveling companion while confined to a hospital.
So if you’re going to be here enjoying our fair land, a Visitors to Canada policy can provide the peace of mind that will help you enjoy it even more. And if you have questions or want to know more, talk to us. If you do, you’ll probably find that everything you’ve heard about Canadian kindness and politeness is pretty much bang on.
Global Expatriate
“Global Expatriate Hospital and Medical.” Pretty glamorous name for an insurance policy, right? Here’s who is officially eligible for it:
- Canadian citizens residing outside of Canada
- Canadian citizens returning to reside in Canada and awaiting coverage under a government health insurance plan
- non-Canadian citizens residing in Canada
- non-Canadian citizens residing outside of their country of origin while employed by a Canadian company.
If you’re one of the above, and you are NOT eligible for benefits under a Canadian government health insurance plan, then you are eligible for this insurance, with its glamorous name yet very practical benefits.
If you have questions about those benefits or would like to be a Global Expatriate with adequate medical coverage, contact us.
