Health Spending Accounts

The Canada Revenue Agency has approved a plan that makes health and dental expenses deductible as a company expense instead of a personal one.  It can be used to supplement existing insurance plans or as a stand-alone benefit.  The maximum amount of coverage available is determined by the employer.

Medical expenses that would qualify under a Health Spending Account include:

  • Health & Dental insurance premiums/deductibles
  • Prescription drugs (including smoking cessation / lifestyle, etc)
  • Dental procedures (regular exams, dentures, implants/surgery, orthodontics)
  • Vision (exams, glasses, contact lenses, laser surgery)
  • Paramedical procedures (Chiropractor, Message Therapist, Naturopath, etc)
